DNSChanger Trojan Infection
Late last year authorities shut down a massive Internet traffic hijacking scheme centered in Estonia. Six men were arrested that are suspected of using a trojan known as the DNSChanger Trojan to hijack people's search results and redirect them to bogus pages created to look like the real thing.
The latest research on the trojan shows that the trojan that powered the criminal network is still running on computers at half of the Fortune 500 companies, and on computers at nearly 50 percent of all federal government agencies. This trojan also attempts to block the infected computer from visiting web sites that may be able to offer help in removing the threat from your system. DNSChanger has been known to be bundled together with other types of malware. The trojan can also disable a user's antivirus program and block a PC machine from receiving updates from Microsoft. Rough estimates are coming in that this trojan allowed the men to redirect search results on about four million computers in over 100 countries. including about 500,000 in the US.
